Forever Grey Adoption Process

 In an effort to match each Greyhound with his or her best possible home, Forever Grey has an adoption process that allows our volunteers to get to know potential adopters, and to provide the information and support necessary to ensure a successful placement.

1. Fill out an Adoption Application

The first step is to fill out an Adoption Application, which can be downloaded from the link at the top of this page.  Once filled out, please mail to:

The application must be accompanied with a $100 application fee. This fee will be credited toward your adoption fee when you adopt your retired racer.        *The application fee is non refundable

 2. Adoption Application Review

Once the application is submitted and received, and if everything looks okay, an adoption representative will call and schedule a home visit.

 3. Home Visit

 The home visit does not serve as a way for us to judge your home. Instead the home check is a chance for you to show the adoption rep how you tend to care for and provide for your greyhound and for the adoption rep to survey your home for any greyhound hazards. For example, greyhounds right off the track can be fearful of wooden or linoleum floors, as well as have difficulty with stairs. The adoption rep will point out any potential hazards he or she sees, and help you come up with ways to minimize any risk.  Shortly after our visit we will let you know if you’ve been approved.

4. Our Hounds

 A way to meet dogs is to visit one of our Meet and Greets held at various locations around town. All of our dogs are lucky enough to be placed in a foster home before adoption. This can be for a few days or longer if needed.

 5. Adoption Time

 Based on your application and home visit, we will begin the process of matching you and or your family, with the perfect dog. Once your dog is chosen and has spent the time needed in foster care, arrangements will be made to deliver your dog to your home.

At this time there will be some paperwork that needs to be filled out. Forever Grey requires a signed contract which ensures that if you have to give up your greyhound, you will return the dog to us. In addition, at the time of adoption you must pay the adoption fee of $300 minus the deposit.  ($300 less $100 deposit sent with application) . Our adoption fee includes, spay/neuter, an initial check up by a veterinarian, dental, vaccinations, 1^st dose of flea & tick medication, Heartworm, a Forever Grey identification tag, and martingale collar/leash combo.

THE ADOPTION FEE IS NON-REFUNDABLE! 

Once the adoption is complete, please don’t think that you are on your own. Your adoption rep and any of our volunteers are more than happy to answer any questions that may come up in the next days, weeks, months, even years.

No matter what problem you might be having, we at Forever Grey always have access to greyhound experts who will answer any questions and provide advice for as long as you have your dog. We love to hear from our adopters, and have a yearly get together for hounds and humans so we can see old faces and get acquainted.
